The Ada East District National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has installed road signs in some safe areas to alert people to safe areas during flooding.

Mr. Randolf Kabutey of NADMO in charge of operations during a presentation at the Second Ordinary Session of the Ada East District Assembly said the signage was intended to educate citizens of where they could be safe in the event emergency.

He said the signs were installed at Ada Foah Methodist School, Azizanya Elementary School, Ada Foah Roman Catholic School and Pediatorkorpey Clinic.

The other safe areas are; Alavanyo, Anyakpor, Totìmekope, Otrokpeh, Puteh Ocansekopey, Alorkpem, Aflive, Big Ada, Gorm, Atortorkopey, Kasseh, Asigbekorpey, Kungmor, Tamatoku and Togbloku.

He said NADMO is working to identify and install more signage in all safe areas to ensure that in an emergency, residents can easily reach those safe sites.

He said the organization had raised awareness among citizens through community engagements and organizing awareness programs in various schools in the district.

He added that NADMO would use festive and traditional gatherings to educate residents on safety measures and how to prevent accidents.

He said NADMO had identified safe areas like schools, churches and community centers where people who were not at home could take refuge in the event of a flood.

He said 29 safe zones have been identified in Ada East district.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Sarah Dugbakie Pobee, District Director General (DCE) of the Ada East District Assembly, advised residents to adhere to COVID-19 protocols to limit its spread in communities.

She said the pandemic was still present and called on residents to support the government’s efforts to curb the spread of the virus, “we must work together to fight COVID-19”.

Madam Pobee told the Ghanaian News Agency in an interview with Ada Foah that adhering to COVID-19 protocols such as hand washing, application of hand sanitizer and social distancing does not only reduce the spread. of the virus but was also a way to improve our health because it prevents the body from contracting other diseases.

She noted that the Assembly has organized many community awareness campaigns to sensitize people on the need to adhere to the protocols but unfortunately the response is slow.

Ms Pobee said it was important to strictly follow safety protocols and called on residents to want to prevent the spread of disease.
