Electrochem Ghana Limited (EGL), a salt production company of the McDan group of companies, has provided GH ¢ 3,000,000.00 in interest-free loans to women entrepreneurs in Ada to expand their various businesses.
This was done through the Company’s Community Support Program set up to empower entrepreneurs in the different communities of Ada.
Ms Dzigbordi K. Dosoo, project consultant for the company, told the media that there are many livelihood projects in Ada, but the lack of financial and educational support, coaching, counseling and strategic planning has made entrepreneurs unproductive.
She said Electrochem’s goal is to grow up with entrepreneurs in the communities to change the look of Ada through the community support program.
She added that research has revealed that women are money multipliers, hence the need to establish a support program for Ada traders; “We thought that our first point in our social responsibility activities was to first take the women and give them loans, just support funds to run a business enterprise. So we selected all the communities and asked them to bring lists.
“We sifted through the lists and selected the first batch that will not only get training but get financial support, get full training on the skills needed to become entrepreneurs.”
Ms. Dosoo said that after skills and financial empowerment, the Electrochem team would systematically monitor the business performance of the beneficiaries to provide them with continued support until their businesses take off firmly.
“So our dream is to make Ada prosperous and highly developed so that when people who are looking for their number one resource come to the state, they can see the impact of what salt has done for them.
“Our strategy is first about the community, then advertising second,” she explained.
Naana Adiki Manyeyo Adi I, queen mother of the Adibiawer clan, who is also responsible for cooperative social responsibilities for the business after receiving the check from the business, called on women not to default in servicing their loans .
Naana Adi told the Ghanaian News Agency in an interview that more than 1,000 applications had been received, but the company reviewed and selected the first 200 women to qualify for the loans.
She said the next batch would follow until every female entrepreneur in Ada’s land is empowered, regardless of what work she does.
They would be trained in counseling, business networking, financial management and the like to help them know how to manage their finances.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to the GNA expressed their enthusiasm for Electrochem’s help and thanked Mr. Daniel Mckorley for the loan.
Electrochem Ghana Limited just seven months after taking over the Songor Lagoon has undertaken several social responsibility activities in Ada, including the weekly provision of clean water to underprivileged communities, helping more than 50 pre-SHS students to purchase school materials, among others.
