Adrien Rabiot should not miss his summer goal for Liverpool while the excluded group of Paris Saint-Germain would have opted for a connection with Real Madrid.
The 23-year-old midfielder has not played for PSG since the beginning of December after failing to sign a new contract.
Rabiot, whose current contract expires this summer, was also suspended by the Ligue 1 champion for his antics after the defeat against Manchester United.
It seems certain to leave the French giants at liberty on a free transfer. Liverpool kept a close watch on his situation.
Jurgen Klopp wants to strengthen his midfield squad for next season and Rabiot, who has played 227 appearances for PSG, would add experience to the team.
But according to Calcio Mercato, the Spanish outlet El Chiringuito reportedly claimed that Rabiot would prefer to settle in Santiago Bernabeu and play under the orders of its new director Zinedine Zidane.
Zidane is supposed to be a big fan of the French international and is looking to recruit midfielders this summer.
A long-term replacement for Luka Modric is high on Real's list of priorities this summer, with Paul Pogba on target.
But Rabiot would be a much cheaper alternative to his compatriot.
If the Rabiot agreement does not materialize, Zidane would also be interested in the manufacturer of Juventus Miralem Pjanic.
However, Real Madrid gives priority to Rabiot – and it seems that Liverpool will have to turn his attention elsewhere.
