Aduana Stars player Farouk Adams has been arrested for allegedly knocking out a police officer and leaving him to die.
The incident allegedly occurred Monday evening between Asuotiano and Asuhyiae in the Dormaa East district of the Bono region.
The officer, Constable Amos Mattey of the Wamfie Police Station, reportedly left his workstation to buy something, but never returned until he was found dead Tuesday morning in what appears to be a hit and run by a Red Toyota Camry with registration number GW 5882-17, driven by Aduana Stars center-back.
Farouk Adams is currently in police custody.
The player, who won the NASCO Man of the Match award in week 16 of Ghana’s Premier League match between Aduana Stars and Inter Allies in Dormaa, was back from Sunyani in Dormaa when the crash s ‘is produced.
According to sources, the player claims to have run over a suspected animal that passed through the car he stopped on but found nothing.
The source said he claims he subsequently parked the car at a nearby gas station where he called the owner of the car about the accident and went to Wamfie Polyclinic to treat the injury he suffered.
He is said to have returned to the scene of the accident later with the owner of the car, but has yet to find anything.
He then left for Dormaa in a different vehicle while a mechanic moved the other car to Sunyani on the orders of the current owner, the source said.
Farouk Adams alleged that it was his friend who later told him that the incident caused the death of a person.
He then reported it to Dormaa Police Station around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and was subsequently arrested by Wamfie Police.
A police source said he had information about an accident victim only to find Constable Mattey’s lifeless body on the road to the scene.
The body has been deposited at Presby Hospital in Dormaa while investigations continue.
