Former Minister of State for Public Procurement, Sarah Adwoa Safo was appointed to take over the Ministry of Gender during the second term of the Akufo-Addo administration.
It comes after Presidential Acting Director of Communications Eugene Arhin released a slate of President Akufo-Addo’s candidates to ministers on Thursday, January 2021.
Cynthia Mamle Morrison, who previously served as Minister for Gender Equality, has not, however, been appointed to any ministerial or regional role by the President.
In addition, the former Minister of Special Development Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson was appointed Minister-designate of Fisheries and Aquaculture while Frema Prempeh was appointed Minister of Public Works and Housing.
President Akufo-Addo also realigned seven ministries namely, aviation, business development, downtown and Zongo development, monitoring and evaluation, regional planning, reorganization and development and special development initiatives.
However, the office of the chief minister was abolished, a position previously held by Yaw Osafo Maafo.
The current list of candidates for ministerial posts will represent 30 and that of regional ministers will consist of 16.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo says he hopes parliament will see to the swift approval of his candidates for central and regional government roles.
