Afghanistan: Taliban warning fire during demonstration in Kabul | General news

The Taliban fired to disperse the crowds during a large demonstration in the Afghan capital, Kabul.

Video footage from the scene shows people running to safety, while heavy gunfire can be heard in the background.
Hundreds of protesters took to the streets on Tuesday to demand women’s rights and denounce the Taliban regime.

Protesters also chanted anti-Pakistan slogans, as many believe neighboring Pakistan supports the Taliban, which the country denies.

A video sent to the BBC shows Taliban fighters firing in the air – a move the group banned last week after several people were killed after celebratory airstrikes.

Some journalists, including the BBC crew, were prevented from filming the rally, and Afghan agency Tolo News reported that its cameraman was arrested along with other local and foreign media workers.

Women have been demonstrating for a week, but on Tuesday the men also joined in their calls for equality and security. Many observers had pointed out that there were few men at previous gatherings led by women.

The protests come a day after the leader of the anti-Taliban fighters, Ahmad Massoud, called for a “national uprising” of civilians against the militants.
