Gregory Afoko after the hearing on Tuesday 29 January 2019
The family of Gregory Afoko, suspected of murdering Adams Mahama, the former president of the New Patriot for the Upper East Region, is challenging the fairness of the state's decision to abandon his trial .
They complained about the state's decision, which they say is unfair to their parent who cooperated with prosecutors.
"We have asked Gregory's lawyers to use all available legal means to challenge the fairness of the filing of the nose prosequi in the appropriate court."
The family also stated that "proceedings were initiated before the Supreme Court and other courts".
At a press conference Tuesday, the family also voiced concerns about the treatment inflicted on his loved one.
In an interview with Citi News, a family spokesman, Dr. Akis Afoko revealed that they were not informed of Gregory Afoko's location since his arrest.
"Since the reappearance of our brother and our son, we have had no access to him. We have not seen it and its lawyers do not have access to it. We fear that this is really unfair. He will sink into depression simply because he will think that the family has abandoned him. "
Adams Mahama was seriously injured as a result of an acid attack outside his home in Bolgatanga on May 20, 2015.
He died of these injuries at the Bolgatanga General Hospital.
The Afoko trial began in 2016 and was about to be completed after the prosecution and the defense lawyer had closed their cases.
But on January 28, 2019, the Attorney General filed a motion to stop the trial following the arrest of another suspect, Asabke Alangdi, who was on the run.
Afoko and Alangdi were later brought before the Central Accra District Court on a charge of conspiracy to murder and kill.
