The African Summit on Migration calls for the effective implementation of migration policies in the sub-region to achieve its agenda.
Nekotech Center President Reverend Dr. AK Ocansey urged the government to ratify International Labor Organization Convention C189 to promote decent work.
“There are conventions that we propagate and what we are saying is that as a country, we want to see the C189 Convention which is decent work for domestic workers and we want to see the C190 which is also the non-violence in the workplace ratified. And when these are ratified, it will help clean up the industry and make it safe and orderly, ”she said.
Migration to the Gulf States
Presidential Director of Diaspora Affairs Akwasi Awua Ababio said the government was lifting the ban on hiring workers in Gulf countries with the appropriate measures in place.
“I think now we have a lot of information on how things went wrong and therefore the necessary work that needs to be done in the background has been done to enable those who are really registered who are also in business get back into business. he said.
He added that the move will ensure that Ghanaians who seek employment there will get decent jobs.
For his part, the president of the International Forum of Journalists on Migration, Ajibola Abayomi cautioned journalists to be cautious in their reporting on migration issues.
“For example, we have to understand and admit that the media needs a lot of dynamism and concept of migration in bringing a human face to the issue to make it more human reporting,” he said.
The summit will be organized as an annual conference for all stakeholders interested in the accelerated development of Africa through migration, as well as the advancement and effective implementation of African migration policies, reviewing and providing roadmaps as contributions to policy makers in establishing bilateral and multilateral platforms and agreements that benefit the release, security and protection of African migrants seeking more prosperous lifestyles through a decent work abroad.
