In the super competitive creative bubble we know as Hollywood, there are many black celebrities on the rise. Most moviegoers think that these stars are black Americans, but in reality, there are more and more big names in the American film industry of African descent or of African descent. South Africa is the leading country in terms of actors and actresses of African descent working in Hollywood. There are so many South Africans in Hollywood and in the American television industry that the country enjoys international recognition and hardly deserves any special mention.
The number one on our list of South African actors is none other than the beautiful Charlize TheronBorn in Johannesburg in 1975. Charlize's mother tongue is Afrikaans: her father is French and her mother is of German descent. Her big breakthrough came when she won an Oscar for best actress for playing serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster (2003).
