The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) International Committee withdrew the hosting rights of the Republic of Ghana for the 2019 and 2020 editions of the All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, due to the lack of host country capacity contractual obligations subscribed on July 12, 2018, necessary to keep the organization of the biggest musical event in Africa.
The decision was taken on Monday, 15 July, after several months of meetings and consultations with relevant stakeholders to remedy the situation, in the hope that the Republic of Ghana will provide badurances and concrete guarantees enabling it to fulfill its contractual obligations with respect to hosting the 2019 and 2020 editions of the Republic of Ghana. AFRIMA after its disappointing performance on the contract at the 2018 awards ceremony that was held in Accra from 21 to 24 November and that the organizers managed to set up against all odds.
It should be remembered that the decision of the African Union (AU) and AFRIMA to award a right to hosting three terms (2018-2020) of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA ) in Ghana followed the statement of the President of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Akufo Addo, of his desire to host the AFRIMA Awards in Ghana, awarded on May 21, 2018 at the unveiling ceremony of the AFRIMA 2018 calendar held in Accra.
After initially acquitting itself of certain responsibilities incumbent upon the host country, on September 5, 2018, the African Union publicly announced to the African Union Secretariat, Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), the rights of the African Union. Hosting the 5th AFRIMA, as well as a letter signed by the Commissioner for Social Affairs. The African Union, Amira El Fadil, dated 13 September 2018, was sent to the Government of the Republic of Ghana through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Ghana.
According to AFRIMA's international advisor, Mr. Rikki Stein, while thanking the youth and the Ghanaian media, said: "It was a difficult decision for us to withdraw hosting rights from the rewards for the next two years (editions 2019 and 2020) of the Republic of Ghana. As a reward for the people of Africa, it is structured to travel the continent and give people the true African experience. We have great memories of our stay in Ghana, immersed in the lifestyle and music, and we have made great friends with the people of Ghana. We look forward to returning to Ghana at a more opportune time. However, we can not afford to compromise the level of AFRIMA's commendable vision of creating a truly African brand that connects Africans and enhances the equity of Africa. The situation in Ghana is likely to undermine the good will and the tremendous progress we have made in Africa through rewards. "
Mr Stein, former director and friend of Afrobeat Legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, added that AFRIMA aimed to increase fairness in tourism and entertainment. a host country, the host receiving an influx of international and African dignitaries, nominated for AFRIMA, music stars. and executives who participate in the four-day program of activities. AFRIMA also offers benefits that would enhance the continental and international profile of the host country, including the ability to appeal to millions of participants and followers of growing African music.
The African Union has benefited from a successful and effective hosting partnership with the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which has earned the right to host the four editions of AFRIMA – to count 2014-2017.
"The support of the Ministry of Information and Culture of Nigeria, sponsored by the Government of Lagos State, as the official host city of AFRIMA in 2016 and 2017, also fostered the smooth running of the various AFRIMA events and facilitated the seamless participation of corporate sponsorship / partnership in different aspects of event planning and execution, "said Stein.
"Our concerns are sincere and disturbing. The host government must make appropriate arrangements for the holding of the AFRIMA Awards Ceremony and events in advance, provide suitable accommodation in advance to nominees, artists and guests , and to provide and process the necessary visas. arrive in advance and on time for guests, candidates, artists, contractors and other stakeholders concerned with the awards. If these are not in place, then we have a recipe for disaster on our hands, "he said.

After five exceptional AFRIMA editions from 2014 to 2018, The 6th edition will continue in the tradition of celebrating Africa's glittering musical culture by presenting exciting pan-African events throughout the life of the 2019 calendar year.
