Microsoft believes that users around the world should be protected on the Web and that laws similar to GDPR can offer this protection, but that only companies can not apply them.

After Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, has repeatedly asked for a similar protection law by the US federal government, Microsoft has also responded. In a long article, his blog explained why governments should apply a similar law.

Julie Brill, Vice President of the Company and Deputy General Counsel for Microsoft, explained how several countries are implementing new laws or considering changing existing laws to align their privacy regulations with those of GDPR.

According to Microsoft, it can help businesses and individuals secure and manage their data, but a privacy law can only be enforced by governments. It is therefore high time that Congress adopts the example of the rest of the world and adopts federal legislation that strengthens the protections of GDPR. for US users too.

Microsoft believes that membership in the GDPR is important and that it can prove to be beneficial for the country. Thus, it will not have to spend its resources to develop a new system guaranteeing confidentiality and data protection.

Although both Republicans and Democrats believe that a federal privacy law should be pbaded, the former believes that the FTC should only be allowed to apply rules developed by the legislature; while the latter wishes to give the FTC the power to apply and enforce confidentiality rules. For this reason, no agreement has yet been reached.
