The major suburbs, including Kaneshie, Abossy Okai and Awudome, were submerged after the torrential rain.
Accra, the capital of Ghana, was flooded again just an hour after the rain.
The rains that began around 2 pm continued until the evening.
It is barely a week after President Nana Akufo-Addo inspected the progress of the Odaw River dredging works and a storm drainage project at Kaneshie 'First Light' in Accra.
The major suburbs, including Kaneshie, Abossy Okai and Awudome, were submerged after the torrential rain.
Accra has suffered perpetual floods for decades with various regimes seemingly devoid of knowledge to face this challenge.
Successive governments over the years have squeezed millions of cedis into the dredging and desilting of drains.
Surprisingly, the gutters continued to be left open, locals viewing them as garbage dumps, the end result being floods every time it rained in town.
The government has always called for a change of attitude on the part of citizens, especially regarding the dumping of garbage into gutters or drains.
However, over the years, it seems that governments have not really realized that if the gutters and drains were covered, citizens would not be able to dump garbage, there would be no therefore no place to spend millions of cedis per year for dredging. these funds could be used for other development initiatives.
