Tain District CEO candidate Dr Lucy Acheampong said agriculture and education will be key areas she will prioritize in her quest to help develop the district if approved.
The educator and the only woman among the 12 municipal and district executive candidates in the Bono region, said she would rally stakeholders to embrace President Akufo-Addo’s biggest dream, for agriculture all year round and raise the level of education in Tain.
“What we need in Tain is no different from President Akufo-Addo’s vision to promote agriculture, planting for food and jobs.
“I’m going to take it upon myself with Tain’s stakeholders, get together and work as a team to make sure farming is done throughout the year. Thus, a district, a dam will be promoted for sustainable irrigation throughout the year, ”she told Joy News in Sunyani.
The appointment of the heads of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Executive (MMDCE) is the exclusive prerogative of the President, and in accordance with Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution, he announced the 260 MMDCE in Ghana on September 19, 2021.
They would be confirmed after prior approval by a majority of at least two-thirds of the members of the assembly present and voting at the meeting.
Regarding education, she explained that “a lot of girls finish their education after lower secondary school. The situation must change. I will ensure that the high schools in Tain are also upgraded. And as an educator, I will ensure that we have quality teachers and teaching and learning in the district ”.
According to her, education is the root of all development, and her vision will help to raise the level of education in Tain.
Dr Lucy Acheampong has admitted that there is opposition to her appointment by the President, but, once approved, she hopes to engage and win them to join her in the development of Tain with humility.
“When we went to the control, there were 15 of us and each had their own supporters. So it is certain that when you are appointed, there may be opposition. But what I’m going to do is sit one-on-one with them to let them know that we come from the same house with one stool. But when we come together and work as a team, we can achieve our goal ”.
She said it would be her priority even before she began to strategize, and believes that with humility and service they will achieve a common goal.
She also said that she would engage all other stakeholders, including traditional leaders, to sensitize them that everything will have to be done to develop the district.
Meanwhile, out of the 12 districts of the Bono region, only Iddrisu Oatarra (Dormaa Central Municipal), Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman (Dormaa East) and Kofi Adjei (Berekum East Municipal) have been reappointed.
The town hall of Sunyani East, which has remained vacant since the appointment of the then DCE, Justina Owusu-Banahene, will be occupied by Mr. Ansu Kumi, a former president of the Assembly once confirmed.
The other candidates from the Bono region are Emmanuel Akone (Banda), Dominic Oppong (Berekum West), Francis Kwadwo Oppong (Dormaa West), Solomon Owusu (Jaman North), Andrews Bediako (Jaman South Municipal), Evans Kusi Boadum (Sunyani West), and Alex Oduro Damoah, (Municipal de Wenchi).
In the Ahafo region, the nominees are Frank Adusei Poku (Asunafo South) – the only new entrant to the region, Anthony Mensah (Asutifi North), Robert Dwomo Mensah (Asutifi South), Ernest Kwarteng (Tano North) and Collins Offinam – Takyi (Tano Sud).
