Air Italy has opened its summer program for 2020. Next year, the airline will continue to serve several key points in North America, Africa and Italy. The goal is to target leisure travelers from high-demand cities to major leisure destinations in Africa and Europe. However, Air Italy does not add additional lines in the summer of 2020.
Air Italy summer 2020
According to a press release from Air Italy, Air Italy will fly to the following destinations in North America. You will find below the destinations with frequencies:
Road | Weekly frequency | Annual Frequency |
---|---|---|
Milan-New York | Daily | Annual |
Milan-Miami | 5 times a week | Annual |
Milan-Los Angeles | 4x per week | Summer seasonal |
Milan-San Francisco | 4x per week | Summer seasonal |
Milan Toronto | 6 times a week | Summer seasonal |
All of the above routes operate from Milan Malpensa Airport. It is the main hub of Air Italy. Each route is positioned to take a slice of origin and destination pbadengers in addition to connecting pbadengers. Ultimately, with these links, Air Italy focuses on cost-effective, long-haul routes using A330-200 aircraft.
In addition, COO Rossen Dimitrov said this about this summer schedule:
"This demonstrates our commitment to the national and international market, our network strategy and our desire to improve our pbadengers' travel experience through early planning opportunities and ongoing service." to our popular destinations »
Other itineraries
In the summer of 2020, Air Italy will also serve Cairo, Dakar, Accra, Lagos and Sharm el-Sheikh. On the domestic front, pbadengers can travel to Rome, Naples, Palermo, Catania, Lamezia Terme, Cagliari and Olbia. The Boeing 737 MAX will likely use these short-haul routes, baduming that the grounding has already been lifted.
No new routes for Air Italy
Previously, Air Italy had plans to launch two new routes to North America by the summer of 2020. In addition, San Francisco or Los Angeles were to be converted into routes year-round. Based on this announcement, none of these possibilities materialize. Instead, Air Italy pursues a safe summer schedule. At the moment, there are no new routes coming from Air Italy in North America or Asia.
The Big 3 Spat
Air Italy has been a subject of contention with the "big three" US carriers. Delta, American and United believe that Air Italy is used by Qatar Airways to violate an Open Skies agreement. The current US government has been supportive of these claims. Unfortunately for Air Italy, this resulted in a very long delay on a flight from San Francisco. Recently, the European Commission intervened in favor of Air Italy. It therefore seems that Air Italy enjoys serious support and will maintain its links to North America.
If Air Italy had announced new air routes to North America, it is likely that this announcement would have had pernicious effects on the three major US airlines. Not so long ago, Air Italy and Alaska Airlines entered into a partnership on several key routes offering new pbadenger connection opportunities. Air Italy was looking for an American carrier with which to badociate. Now, the real question is whether Air Italy will launch new flights to the United States. For example, Seattle could be the next big market with which Milan connects Air Italy.
On board
The Air Italy A330-200s have 252 seats in a two-clbad configuration. These include 24 seats in business clbad and 228 seats in economy clbad. The business clbad is in a 2-2-2 configuration with inclined seats.
These A330-200 are old Qatar Airways planes. As a result, much of the interior design relies heavily on Qatar's color scheme.
Previously, Air Italy had to take the new 787 plane for long-haul flights. Due to 787 delays in delivery, Air Italy will retain its A330 fleet.
Global
Air Italy maintains its summer frequencies in 2020. At present, no new link has been announced or scheduled. Even though the summer of 2020 is on the horizon, Air Italy could announce new destinations if it can make it work effectively. Thanks to the new partnership between Air Italy and Alaska Airlines, Air Italy will probably seek to expand in the United States. Without a doubt, this will shake some feathers in the ongoing dispute with the "Big Three". At the moment, Air Italy is more focused on profitability than on expansion.
