Airborne Ebola: A new, notorious, species of virus is found among bats in Sierra Leone

A new Ebola virus was found in bats in Sierra Leone, two years after the end of an epidemic that killed more than 11,000 people in West Africa, said Thursday the government. Virus species – which, according to the researchers, could be transmitted to humans – can become the deadly disease of Ebola.

"For the moment, it is still unclear whether Bombali's Ebola virus has been transmitted to people," said Amara Jambai, a senior official at the Ministry of Health.

Ministry of Health and researcher who worked on the discovery confirmed the results.

The researchers who found the new virus in the Bombali area are now working with the Sierra Leonean government. Ministry of Health said, "As a precaution, people should refrain from eating bats."

The worst Ebola outbreak began in December 2013 in the United States. The West African neighboring countries, Liberia and Sierra Leone

The West African epidemic was caused by the Zaire species, which was historically the deadliest in humans since its identification in 1976.

This epidemic has killed more than 11,300 according to estimates by the World Health Organization, about 29,000 cases have been reported

The WHO declared the epidemic in January this year, but was followed by outbreaks in all three countries
