You do not have an AppleTV, or even a TV, but you want to send some of the videos from your iPhone to this 27-inch iMac screen? Erica Sadun, still ingenious, from TUAW has developed a new tricky software that fools your iPhone or iPod Touch into thinking it's an AppleTV.

The software, called AirPlayer, is currently ad-supported and a little buggy, but it has a lot of potential. Erica says:

AirPlayer creates and publishes a personalized Bonjour AirPlay service that claims to be an Apple TV. Bonjour is Apple's no-configuration network solution that allows devices and applications to communicate with each other over local networks. When Apple created AirPlay, it basically defined a new way for Apple TV to interact with iOS using Bonjour communications.

I'm somewhat mystified by the fact that this is not already an option in iTunes – and hope that Apple will eventually make this type of native capability – but it's nice to have this option (free!). Well done, Miss Sadun.
