Juventus has made an offer of 75 million pounds sterling for Matthijs de Ligt, according to reports reported by Italy.
The Dutch international De Ligt is courted by several European clubs, including Manchester United and Barcelona, but it is the Old Lady who are trying to be the first to sign the young man, 19 years old.
De Ligt is the most wanted player in the world this summer after a sensational season during which he was captain of Ajax to win the Dutch title and semifinal of the Champions League.
Barcelona is favorite to get his signature, and representatives of the Catalan club have spoken to De Ligt's agent, Mino Raiola.
But the Nou Camp club is reluctant to offer big salaries to De Ligt, which Manchester United is apparently willing to do.
The Red Devils, however, can not offer the central defender of the Champions League nor the opportunity to compete for a title in his first season.
Thus, while the agreements with the two clubs are at a standstill, Juventus decided to try the player in the hope of signing it under the nose of its European rivals, according to Tuttosport.
De Ligt has been open during his interviews in recent weeks about his projects, although he has not dropped a particular club.
It seems however that his heart is determined to move to the Premier League or La Liga as opposed to Serie A.
De Ligt told ESPN: "Where do I see myself? Well, obviously, the Premier League is a big competition, Spain too," he said. "But you have other competitions, it's not just these two.
"I still do not know where my future is, so I see how it goes, we have to play two games first, and then I'll see what happens next."
