"Mathematics, science, reading, writing and creativity are therefore at the heart of this new program," he said.
Basic education to include high school
The president also announced that in 2019, his government was preparing to pbad a bill to redefine basic education to include high school.
"Poverty must not be an excuse for a Ghanaian child to fail to reach his potential. It warms my heart to say that education in the public sector is free from kindergarten to high school, "he said.
Currently, basic education includes kindergarten to junior high school.
Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)
The president also announced that everything was ready for the construction of 10 technical and vocational education and training centers in 2019.
"The new TVET centers will be world-clbad and well equipped to ensure that young people are not geared towards a second-best solution," Akufo-Addo said.
