Akufo-Addo Appoints Directors General for New Assemblies

The president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, appointed the directors general of the six new municipal and district bademblies, inaugurated on Tuesday, February 19th.

This is in accordance with Article 241 (1) of the 1992 Constitution and Article 20 (1) of Law No. 936 on Local Government.

A statement signed on Wednesday by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama, named them: Mr. Alhbadan Abdallah Iddi – District of Gonja Northeast of the Savannah region; and Mr. Godwin Edudzi Effah – Keta Municipal of the Volta Region.

The others are: Alhaji Mohammed Quaye for the Central Municipality of Ayawaso; Nii Adjei Tawiah – Korley – Municipality of Klottey; and Mrs. Mariama Amui – Ablekuma Central Municipal; all in the Greater Accra region.

The statement urged the respective regional ministers to consult with their respective regional election commissions to launch the process of confirming candidacies.

Candidates must obtain at least two-thirds of the valid votes cast by the members of the badembly.
