Akufo-Addo appoints disabled person as regional minister of Oti

President Akufo-Addo in his quest to form an inclusive government appointed a person with disabilities as one of his lieutenants in carrying out his term during his second term.

Joseph Makubu has been appointed Minister-designate for the Oti region and, once approved by Parliament, will succeed his predecessor, Nana Kwasi Owusu-Yeboah.

According to sources, Mr. Makubu is a farmer and also the current secretary general of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the region.

Along with other candidates, Makubu is expected to appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee for review and approval in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the act was hailed by a section of Ghanaians on social media.

While congratulating the newly appointed Minister, they note that Ghana still has a long way to go to bridge the inclusion gap in the governance structure.

However, this will not be the first time that a person with a disability has been appointed to a ministerial post.

In 2013, former President John Mahama appointed a visually impaired person as minister.
