We acknowledge receipt of your most recent letter, dated March 11, 2019, and thank you for its content. My answer is in two parts.
First of all, I note that you have, quite rightly, handed a copy of this document to the President of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Freddie Blay. I asked him to respond to his content, since he is the legitimate person to whom to speak directly on behalf of the New Patriotic Party, and I expect him to do it quickly.
Secondly, since the constitutional responsibility for the maintenance of public order in our country rests with the executive branch, that is, the President of the Republic, I have, in accordance with what I have stated in Parliament during the State of the Nation Message of February 21, 2019, instructed the Attorney General, without prejudice to the results of the eventual engagement between the NPP and the NDC, to prepare and submit to Parliament, in the sooner, specific legislation to combat the phenomenon of vigilance, and appropriate sanctions against its appearance.
I believe that the process of parliamentary enactment provides every citizen with sufficient space to contribute to the enactment of a good and effective law, the application of which will enable us to rid our country of violence related to terrorism. policy, an evolution that can only happen. for the benefit of Ghanaian democracy and the maintenance of public order.
