President Akufo-Addo commissioned the Bono Region Fire Headquarters, a newly constructed maternity and psychiatric ward at Sunyani Government Hospital and the 3rd Battalion Infantry Base Administrative Block in Sunyani .
As part of the President’s working visit to the Bono region on Wednesday August 11, 2021, his first stopover was the Bono Region Fire Department Headquarters, construction of which began in 1992, but was abandoned and left behind. to the vagaries of the weather. .
As a result, most of the columns and load-bearing walls gradually lost their structural integrity.
This is why, under the assumption of the Akufo-Addo government, an assessment carried out in July 2017, which indicated that, if work did not start on the building, it might have to be demolished.
Indeed, the non-existence of a regional headquarters in the region seriously hampered the work of the fire brigade, since it had to compete with the Sunyani municipal barracks for offices.
To this end, the Akufo-Addo government made available GH ¢ 2,820,884.29 for the construction of the office complex, which was duly completed on May 4, 2021. The second phase of the project, which will include construction a maintenance workshop, staff quarters, and a canteen will start soon.
Maternity Block
The president’s next port of call was to commission the new maternal and mental health unit at Sunyani Municipal Hospital.
The old facility, before a new facility was built, looked after some eighty thousand customers per year. Due to the high delivery rates in the maternal ward, there was an urgent need for expansion of the facility, hence the construction of the new maternity block by the Sunyani Municipal Assembly.
The Mental Health Clinic was also built to provide health services to reduce the risk of chronic illnesses related to stress, anxiety and addiction in the municipality and throughout the region.
Road construction
President Akufo-Addo also inspected the ongoing construction of urban roads in Sunyani Municipality, undertaken under the Master Project Support Agreement (MPSA) with Sinohydro Corporation Limited of China.
The implementation of this contract has meant that the “Construction / Rehabilitation of Selected Roads and Interchanges in Ghana – Phase 1 Lot 6 (Sunyani Inner City Roads)” is now underway.
The cost of road construction is US $ 45,020,399.32, with the total length of the roads to be covered totaling 39 kilometers, or 29 km at Sunyani and 10 km at Berekum. The contract period is two years, i.e. 24 calendar months, with the contractor planning to complete the work by June 21, 2023.
3BN administration block
President Akufo-Addo also ordered a new administrative block for the 3rd Battalion infantry base in Sunyani. The building was constructed by the Middle Belt Development Authority, as part of the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Program (US $ 1 million per constituency).
The President also inspected the work in progress on the construction of new headquarters quarters for the officers, men and women of the battalion.
