President Akufo-Addo is due to deliver his final State of the Nation address for his first term.

The presentation conforms to Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution which states that “the President shall, at the beginning of each session of Parliament and before the dissolution of Parliament, deliver to Parliament a message on the state of the nation”.

The event is scheduled to take place at 10:00 am later today.

A statement from the Parliament’s Public Affairs Directorate said attendance was by invitation only due to Covid-19.

However, the Parliamentary Service presented programs to inaugurate the 8th Chamber in order to facilitate the swearing-in of President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo.

This is also in line with the Presidential Transition Law of 2012 (Law 842) of the Constitution of 1992.

Meanwhile, the current Parliament is expected to be dissolved on January 6, 2021 for the 8th legislature which will be inaugurated on January 7.
