Daniel Bugri Naabu, former regional chairman of the NPP in the North
According to Daniel Bugri Naabu, former president of the region of the New Patriotic Party in power in the northern region, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo deserves the World Peace Prize for helping to restore peace in Dagbon after so many years. 39 years of conflict.
In advance of the 2016 elections, President Akufo-Addo promised to ensure that Dagbon would regain his past glory by negotiating peace between the two conflicting gates, Andanis and Abudus.
In November 2018, the committee of eminent leaders chaired by Asantehene and the two warring factions presented the president of Jubilee House with a road map for peace, with the Abudu and Andanis promising to respect it.
The road map saw the funeral rites of the last two lords of Dagbon, Ya Naa Mahamdu Abdulia IV and Ya Naa Yakubu Andani II, as well as the bagging of a new Ya Naa for the Dagbon Kingdom.
Political will
According to Bugri Naabu, the political will and stance of President Akufo-Addo in favor of reconciliation and peaceful settlement of the daffodil chieftaincy are unprecedented and surpbad all those of his predecessors.
In an interview with the Daily Statesman, Naabu said the president's efforts had crowned everything that had been launched by his predecessors.
"Nana Addo deserves the prize for peace in the world because he has brought peace to Dagbon and the northern region. Now we will not talk about Abudu and Andani, but about the Dagbon and North region. Nana Addo has done a remarkable job and the people of the North are forever indebted to her, "he said.
Many had ruled that it was unfair for President Akufo-Addo to take all the glory of peace in Dagbon because others played a major role in the process.
But the main member of the NPP said that the Dagbon peace process would have been halted as was the case under the NDC regime if President Akufo-Addo had not been elected Ghanaian people.
"His Royal Majesty, Asantehene, His Royal Majesty, Yagbonwura and His Royal Majesty, Nayiri, all deserve praise for their immense contribution to the mediation process. President Kufuor deserves praise for his magnanimous views on the creation of the mediation committee, but Nana Addo deserves more than a noble peace prize, "he said.
"It takes a man of character, peace and wisdom to restore peace in his community and Nana Addo showed Ghana and the world that he was a factor of peace," he said.
