Akufo-Addo instructs the police to implement the report of an Ebony committee

After the death of more than 80 people today as a result of road accidents, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has instructed the Ghana Police Service to speed up the implementation of the "Ebony Committee Report", which explains the cause of the accident that led to the death. of musician Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, better known as "Ebony Reigns".

The report was developed by the interdepartmental committee composed of the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Roads and Highways and the Minister of Transport.

The President's call to the police follows two accidents that occurred today, which claimed the lives of 80 people and injured several others. The first of two accidents occurred on the Tamale-Kintampo Highway when a VVIP bus bearing the GT 3915-17 registration number was crashed on a Grandbird bus bearing the number number 5694-18.

Shortly after, another incident occurred at Ekumfi Duakwa, in the Ekumfi district, in the central region, involving a Yutong bus and a Metro Mbad bus. Since then, the alarming situation has seen many Ghanaians and commentators in society take on the government to address urgently the problems of the country's road network.

In his address at the annual meeting of the Ghana Association of Police Services (WASSA) of the West Africa Security Service, Friday, March 22, 2019 , President Akufo-Addo confirmed that the report of the Ebony Committee was ready. it expects that it will be implemented immediately to help reduce the threat of a road accident.

"As the police are the institution responsible for regulating traffic on our roads, I hope that the recommendations will be quickly implemented and examined as soon as possible," said the President.
