Akufo-Addo introduces 378 new doctors and dentists

President Nana Akufo-Addo has integrated 378 new doctors and dentists into the country's healthcare delivery system.

He noted that the doctor-dentist-population ratio in the country remains very unsatisfactory after 62 years of nationality.

Speaking at the induction ceremony Friday at the Accra International Conference Center, he also revealed that the first batch of 48 ambulances arrived in the country, the second batch to arrive in Ghana. from here the first week of October.

The ceremony was also held in honor of Dr. Evans-Anfom, doctor who was second vice-chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

"We do not currently have the right number of doctors, dentists and health professionals, with the right mix of skills and expertise, in our regions, our districts and our disadvantaged communities, particularly in the regions and newly created districts, "he said.

The President encouraged newly-inducted practitioners "to follow the exemplary example of Dr. Evans-Anfom and to accept badignments in accredited regional and district hospitals, where your services are most needed, especially during your second year of residence.

He said the country would only keep doctors that it will train when agriculture and industry flourish, better roads, better communications, better schools, better housing, power supply reliable and cheaper, as well as better drainage.

"For my part, I am determined to work to ensure that the improvements we all want in our lives become a reality. In the meantime, we need to give trainees and new doctors the means to do a little more to get out of the ordinary to improve the current situation, "he said.

According to President Akufo-Addo, the government is committed to improving access to essential and quality health services by providing the necessary health infrastructure, equipment and logistics, including through the deployment of appropriate technology as part of achieving universal health coverage (UHC).

He added that the national health insurance scheme put in place by President Kufuor's government, which had been left in shambles by successive NDC governments, was revived by another government led by the SOPs.

"We cleared the 1.2 billion arrears we inherited and brought the NHIS operations back to life. Claims from service providers were settled at the end of January of this year. By the end of September, their demands by the end of March would have been settled and by the end of the year their demands by the end of August will also be settled. " said the President.

He reiterated the Government's determination to bring the current regime into compliance with its obligations to service providers and to prevent the accumulation of arrears, as it unfortunately has been the case. Not so long ago.

By ensuring that the Ghanaian people receive the high standards of professionalism and conduct of health professionals, President Akufo-Addo revealed that the government, through the Ministry of Health, had put in place a quality management unit in the Ministry of Health to ensure that Ghanaians receive the best health services regardless of their geographical location.

In addition to the launch of the Ghana Antimicrobial Resistance Policy and Action Plan, the President added that the Government was asking the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) to reconsider its codified conditions of service, which should have been reconsidered.

"Particular attention would be paid to the rural incentive package to encourage professionals to accept badignments in rural and underserviced communities. We will continue to engage with stakeholders to improve the care of our health professionals and, collectively, make our health care system more responsive to the needs of our population, "he said.

President Akufo-Addo urged newly recruited doctors and dentists to let themselves be guided by the Hippocratic oath, to become active citizens and to make the doctor's point of view known to the public.
