New hospital Tafo Govt Health workers at New Tafo Gov't Hospital rejoice in administering drugs delivered by drone

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will attend Wednesday, April 24, a first medical intervention by drone at the new government hospital in Tafo, in the East region.

This will follow the first official launch of a drone carrying drugs from a launch site in Omenako, near Suhum, in the East region.

On Tuesday, the latest fall tests were held at the New Tafo Government Hospital and were successful.

The vaccines were dropped in an open hospital space by a drone and the drugs were administered to the patients.

Health workers were thrilled by the technology and admitted that it would save lives to a large extent.

The doctor Kobina Awotwe Wiredu, medical officer of the New Tafo Government Hospital, in East Akim district, said that his hospital had been chosen because of his outstanding record in case of emergency.

He added that the screening tests allowed a man to save lives with blood on Monday, April 22.

The Omenako launching center is expected to serve 500 health facilities within a radius of 80 kilometers. This is the first of four to be set up across the country.

The technology is expected to target more than 2,000 healthcare facilities and serve 12 million people.

There has been intense public debate following the announcement by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, in 2017, that emergency medical supplies would be made by drones.

After Rwanda, Ghana will become the second African country to provide drugs through this technology.

An estimated 148 medical supplies, including blood, will be stockpiled at four launch centers across the country.
