Akufo-Addo leaves for the United States and Cuba

President Akufo-Addo reportedly left Ghana on Thursday, March 28, 2019 to begin a nine-day visit to the United States of America and the Republic of Cuba.

The visit of President Akufo-Addo to the United States is intended to honor the outstanding invitations to participate in public engagement programs in that country. He will deliver speeches at Harvard Kennedy School at Harvard University and the Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago, and discuss investment opportunities in Ghana at the Chicago Council for Global Affairs.

He will meet Rahm Emmanuel, former chief of staff of President Obama and currently mayor of Chicago, as well as members of the Ghanaian community living in Mbadachusetts and Chicago.

The President will then make a three-day official visit to Cuba at the invitation of Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, President of the State Councils and State Ministers of the Republic of Cuba. He will also meet General Raúl Castro, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, and deliver a speech at the Faculty of Law of the University of Havana.

The chair was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, MP; the Minister of Education, the Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, MP; the Minister of Health, the Hon. Kwaku Agyeman Manu, MP, and officials of the Presidency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

President Akufo-Addo will return to Ghana on Saturday, April 6, 2019, and in his absence, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will act in his place in accordance with Article 60 (8) of the Constitution.
