President Akufo-Addo
President Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed her sorrow at the "terrible" accident in Kintampo, which killed at least 57 people.
Expressing at the annual end-of-year meeting of the South African Security Services Association (WASSA) of the Ghana Police Service, on Friday, March 22, 2019, Mr. Akufo-Addo said: "My condolences and condolences go out to all the families and loved ones of the deceased, may the Almighty grant their souls a peaceful rest."
Dozens of pbadengers in two huge buses, a VVIP bus and the other, an old bus, perished in a terrible frontal collision that occurred on the Techiman – Kintampo road around 4 am, at Ampomakrom, in the electoral area of Pamdu the Bono Est region.
The unfortunate buses bore the registration numbers GT 5694 – 18 and the other GT 3916 – 17.
One of the buses was leaving from Kumasi to go to the northern part of Ghana, while the other was heading in the opposite direction.
Local MP Albert Pimbo told ClbadFMmonline.com that 57 deaths have been confirmed to date.
But a local journalist in Kintampo, Mark Abbrey, told Benjamin Akakpo, the moderator of the Clbad91.3FM executive breakfast show, that he could count more than 70 bodies.
According to him, while some died on the spot, others perished in hospitals where they were taken urgently for emergency treatment.
The cause of the accident is not yet known but Mr Pimbo suspects one of the drivers of being drowsy.
While one of the buses was completely burned after the accident, the other had one of its sides completely mutilated and dislocated from the front to the back.
According to Mr. Pimbo, some of the pbadengers were cremated in the fire that submerged the bus.
Each bus, he said, carried more than 50 people and therefore expressed his fear that the number of victims will continue to increase.
Police and fire officials rushed to the scene to rescue the survivors and drove them urgently to the holy Techiman family and Jema government hospitals for emergency care while the dead were transferred to morgues.
