Akufo-Addo owes me no explanation for firing me in 2018 – Boakye Agyarko

Former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko said President Akufo-Addo owed him no explanation for his dismissal in 2018.

Mr. Agyarko was dismissed from his post due to an electricity deal between the government of Ghana and Africa Middle East Resources Investment (AMERI).

According to him, the president is not obliged to explain why he made this decision.

“He’s the president, he’s the ultimate appointing authority and doesn’t need to give a reason to anyone,” he told JoyNews on Thursday.

Mr Agyarko, who told Joy News’ Kojo Yankson that he was a committed member of the ruling NPP, was among the guests at President Akufo-Addo’s second inauguration at the forecourt of Parliament.

On the possibility of an upcoming meeting, the Bank of New York vice president said it was still early to expect anything as such.

Mr. Agyarko said he “had not spoken to the president on such matters”.

“I haven’t discussed any of these issues with him. It is not for my province to determine and it is not even for my province to speculate. “
