President Akufo-Addo granted presidential pardon to the former deputy of Chiana / Paga Abuga Pele constituency.
Abuga Pele fell ill last month at Nsawam Maximum Security Prison, from where he was transferred to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital and admitted to the hospital’s High Dependency Unit (HDU).
He has since been fired.
The former deputy of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was sentenced to six years in prison by the High Court in Accra in 2018 for causing financial losses to the state while he was the national coordinator of the former Ghana Employment and Entrepreneurship Development Agency (GYEEDA).
He allegedly acted in a way that resulted in the government losing GH ¢ 4.1million after businessman Phillip Akpeena Assibit made false claims that he had secured funding of GH ¢ 65million. World Bank dollars for the creation of a million jobs for young people.
Abuga Pele was convicted of two counts of aiding and abetting fraud and five counts of willfully causing financial loss to the state.
