President Akufo-Addo has officially retired Auditor General Daniel Yao Domelevo.
In a letter signed Wednesday by Nana Asante Bediatuo, the Secretary of the President declared: “The attention of the President of the Republic has been drawn to the registers and documents made available to this Office by the Audit Service, indicating that your date of birth is June 1, 1960 and that, in accordance with Article 199 (1) of the Constitution, your retirement date as Auditor General was June 1, 2020, ”the letter states.
By extension, therefore, “the president is of the opinion that you have officially left office.”
He added that Johnson Akuamoa-Asiedu would continue to act as auditor general until the president appoints a department head.
President Akufo-Addo thanked Mr. Domelevo for his service to the nation and wished him the best in his future endeavors.
Domelevo resumes leave
The Auditor General returned to work today, March 3, after his mandatory 167-day leave.
The besieged anti-corruption crusader, whose retirement age is disputed by the Audit Service Commission, ended the leave he started on July 1, 2020, Tuesday March 2.
As social media buzzed in anticipation of his return, things took an interesting turn on Tuesday when the Audit Service Commission announced that the Auditor General was deemed to have retired in June 2020 due to certain anomalies in his personal files.

In a series of letters exchanged between the chairman of the audit committee, Professor Edward Dua Agyeman and Mr. Domelevo, the latter was invited to explain these anomalies or to take action against him.
The Council alleged that the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) records provided by the Auditor General indicated that his date of birth was 1960 when he joined the scheme on October 1, 1978.
Again, the record also showed that Mr. Domelevo’s hometown is Agbetofe in Togo; making it non-Ghanaian but on October 25, 1993 some changes were made.
As the date of birth changed to June 1, 1961, the Auditor-General’s hometown was now Ada in the Greater Accra region.
