Alexis Sanchez may have had a season to forget, but the Manchester United striker hopes he'll be more successful with his first film.
The stars of 30 years of Mi Amigo Alexis, released Thursday in his country, Chile.
Executive producer Rocio Jadue told BBC Sport that the film was an idea of Sanchez and that the filming took place last year.
"Everyone likes it [in Chile]"said Jadue. He is considered a great hero. "
The film, by award-winning director Alejandro Fernandez Almendras, is not a biographical film, but tells the story of Tito, 12, who accidentally met his idol, Sanchez.
"The unexpected friendship between the child and the idol is a source of lessons for both: Tito discovers his true path in life and Alexis unites the stories of his childhood that remind him why he loves football, "reads the synopsis of the film.
Sanchez, who would be United's biggest earner, has had injury and form problems since moving to Old Trafford in January 2018 after leaving Arsenal and was linked to a move this summer.
The former Barcelona player has scored only once in the Premier League this season, having only played 45 games for United since joining the club.
Mi Amigo Alexis is Sanchez's leading role in the film. He has already appeared in commercials and played the piano in his unveiling video of United.
"I think people are going to be surprised at how Alexis acts – what he does and says," Fernandez said. "It goes beyond what we see on the ground."
Addressing ADN Radio Chile, Sanchez said: "It's different from playing football. There, you're not worried about the cameras.I am a perfectionist and I want things to go well. And finally, I was relaxed and happy, and it was natural. "
Luciano Gonzalez, who beat thousands of people to win the role of Tito, said working with Sanchez was "the most wonderful thing that could have happened".
Sanchez is back home before the Copa America defense by Chile, which begins June 14 in Brazil.
Known in Chile as "Nino Maravilla" (amazing boy), Sanchez is struggling to stay in shape for competition, suffering from an injury to the right ankle.
