The "Carlton" dance of Alfonso Ribeiro became popular when he played the role of Carlton Banks in "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air". Ribeiro filed a copyright application for the "Carlton" but was refused. The US Copyright Office states that the refusal is due to the simplicity of the dance and not to a choreographed routine.
