After leading Algeria to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, Djamel Belmadi, head coach, was nominated for the Federation's coaching prize. International Football Association (FIFA) for the best men's football.

Belmadi, 43, became coach of Algeria in August 2018, after coaching Qatar at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.

Despite strong criticism, Belmadi led Algeria to success and won its first international trophy after defeating all of its opponents on the road to the finals of the 2019 African Nations Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Egypt , including two wins over Senegal in the final group stage.
