Algerians march again as anger rises against army, interim leader

ALGER (Algeria) – Police are deployed around the Algerian capital to dissuade protesters from arriving for an eighth consecutive Friday of protests against the country's leaders.

The organizers of the demonstration encourage Algerians to go to Algiers or other cities to show that they are not satisfied with the departure of the long-time president, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, and wish for a global political change.

Anger rises against the military leader, General Ahmed Gaid Salah, who played a key role in the departure of Bouteflika, but then supported the acting president Abdelkader Bensalah, considered part of the old regime.

Bensalah was appointed interim president this week and announced new elections for July 4th. Calls for protest launch an online appeal for Bensalah and his military commander to withdraw.

The police border the squares and check all the vehicles entering Algiers.
