The Spanish police had to board a whole British football team in an airplane from Alicante airport for being "drunk and disruptive".

Civil Guard officers were called to prevent them from taking the plane after landing in order to deal with the "law and order" problem the team posed.

The force said in a statement that most of the 25 members of the team were intoxicated.

Neither footballers nor the team have been named. They have only been described as an "amateur English football team" having left Bristol for Alicante.

The police met the plane – at the request of the pilot – on his arrival at Alicante airport at 22:50 on Saturday.

The spokesman said that although no men have been formally arrested, they would be named in a report that will be submitted to the Spanish Agency for Safety and Security. aviation.
