Some of the heads of state institutions, President Akufo-Addo asked to retire
Former Chief of the Department of Public Administration and Health Services Management at the UGBS, Judge Bawole, Professor, said it was unfair to ask the heads of public institutions in the country to retire at 60 years old.
He argued that while parliamentarians and some civil servants may be allowed to work even when they are 60 or older, they should be reproduced in other public institutions.
His comments follow a directive by President Akufo-Addo to some eight directors general of government institutions who have pbaded the retirement age to retire mandatory.
Speaking at 3FM's morning show in Sunrise on Monday, Professor Bawole said there was a need for a broader debate on the retirement age of civil servants.
"But for me, the situation is wider because why would we allow a parliamentarian? If the age of 60 is about people's ability to work … If the age of 60 is because people are tired, old and can not work, then parliamentary work is as difficult as any other job in the public service.
"The Presidency itself is the most difficult job we have in Ghana. We are over 72 years old as president and we accept it. We accept parliamentarians and ministers among people aged 70 and over. These are difficult tasks. Why are we going to discriminate against other public services? Asked Professor Bawole.
He stressed the need to rethink the discourse of all retirement ages to make room to accommodate people who are above retirement age and who are still able to put their expertise to the table. profit to build the nation.
"If we believe that people's expertise will be needed even at age 60 and over, I think it's important to legislate for it to be applied fairly."
Professor Bawole explained that this was the reason why the CEOs who asked to retire were appointed despite the fact that they were over 60 at the time of their appointment, which resulted from the failure of those who informed the president. .
"If our institutions worked well, they should have drawn the president's attention to this point.
"The attention of the President should have been drawn. It is important not to name these people because they are over 60 years old, "he said.
