Alsyd Academy school management postponed its reopening today, following the registration of a positive case of Coivd-19.

A statement from the North Airport school confirmed that a key council official had contracted Covid-19.

Previously, it was reported that a school teacher had contracted the disease, but a school statement clarified this.

In light of this, the school board subjected its front liners to mandatory coronavirus testing.

A date will be communicated by the school authorities to know when the pupils will be allowed to return to school.

“Your full cooperation is needed for the benefit of our students and all other stakeholders,” the administration said.

During this time, parents who arrived on the school premises to bring their pupils for class were not allowed to enter.

Speaking to Manuel Koranteng of JoyNews, a parent said, “When we got to school this morning at exactly 7:10 am, we realized that cars were parked outside and the main entrance to the school was closed.

“Security personnel came to tell us it was so unfortunate, but the school postponed reopening until further notice.

The Alsyd Academy board chairman said the Education Ministry had not yet been informed of current events at the school.

According to an address by President Akufo-Addo on the country’s fight against Covid-19, schools across the country, from primary schools to higher education institutions, are due to reopen today, around 10 months after they closed.
