Alternate costumes of each Marvel character

There are quite a few fans who hold Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 in high regard, liking both its extensive roster and massive stockpile of alternate character costumes. But the title wouldn’t be such a fight without the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. The well-received fighter helped shape what would become Ultimate MvC3 and there’s a lot to love about what Capcom made with the 2011 release.

One of the best aspects of MvC3 was its alternate costumes, which gave specific colors to some of Capcom and Marvel’s most beloved characters. The developers didn’t just randomly “throw” those colors either, especially when it comes to Marvel’s roster. The characters were given colors based on past comedic appearances, video games, older versions of MvC, and even movies. The results are spectacular to watch even today. To better showcase the love given to Marvel characters in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, here’s a look at all of the alternate outfits for each hero or villain.

Captain America

Captain America MvC3 Alternate Costumes

Captain America fans can choose from three alternate costumes based on pivotal moments and characters found throughout the hero’s long streak. His bright red suit resembles Red Guardian, the Soviet Russian counterpart who first appeared in 1991 Namor the Sub-Mariner Annual # 1. The bright green outfit is a callback to an alternate color scheme found in Marvel vs Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes and her stark black outfit is a tribute to Punisher War Journal Vol 2 # 7.

Deadpool comic book fans will notice a resemblance to the “alternate version” of the character found in Weapon X: Days of Future Now Vol 1. The black and red duds are reminiscent of his Weapon X costume and the black and white costume refers to a time when he was part of the X-Force.

Dr Doom

Doctor Doom MvC3 Alternate Costumes

Dr. Doom gets three black-based designs with the first one with colors based on his Doom 2099 appearance. The red-caped version also comes from Doom 2099, as a color scheme for an alternate version of the character. The blackened look is based on a design featured in Old Man Logan.

Dormammu

Alternate Costumes MvC3 Dormamu

Dormammu gets a handful of outfits that reference older comedic appearances. The bright red design is taken from Captain America / Nick Fury: The Otherworld War # 1, while the purple-edged costume is based on his appearance in the 1990s. The oldest encore is his third choice, which passes the color of its core from red to blue. This fiery contrast is based on his design found in Strange Tales Vol 1 # 126 of 1964.

MvC3 Hulk Alternate Costumes

Iron Man

Iron Man has had a lot of armor variations over the years, some with their own unique paint jobs. Its first replacement abandons its classic red design in favor of all the money, as seen in Tales of Suspense with the Iron Man Armor Model 1 Mk-I. Its classic color twist comes from its “Silver Centurion” (Iron Man Armor Model 8) duds, while the blue steel look is based on the “Stealth Armor” (Iron Man Armor Model 7).

Magneto’s dark purple and red outfit is taken from Mutant X and is inspired by an alternate inverted color version of the character. She-Hulk has a bit more color variation than her male counterpart, starting with a red and white outfit based on a costume worn by Lyra of the Frightful Four. Shuma-Gorath

MvC3 Shuma Gorath Alternate Costumes

Shuma-Gorath is a bit difficult to design for alternate costumes, given its alien design, but that hasn’t stopped the developers from rolling out unique color variants for the creature. The pristine white is unique to MvC3, while the blue is a tribute to Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes. Purple is perhaps her most “basic” design, making her basic color debut in Marvel Premiere # 14.

Spider Man

Spider-Man MvC3 Alternate Costumes

Everyone’s favorite web crawler has seen a plethora of costume designs over the years, each with their own tanilizling color combinations. Another iconic color scheme is the Tony-Stark-inspired red and gold of the Iron Spider armor.

Storm

MvC3 Storm Alternate Costumes

She drops white in favor of red for her second costume, inspired by the Tokyo Arena outfit in X-Treme X-Men Vol 1 # 36. MvC3 Super Skrull Alternate Costumes

All of Super Skrull’s outfits help maintain the character’s terrifying presence on the battlefield, with the former opting for a golden color scheme reminiscent of Rl’nnd. Wolverine

Alternate Wolverine MvC3 Costumes

Wolverine gets his first replacement straight from his debut in X-Men # 1, with a mostly gold costume with brown accents.
