Morata scored seven goals in his first eight appearances with Chelsea, but then struggled to find the net regularly

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has joined the Spanish club Atletico Madrid on loan until the end of the 2019-20 season.

The 26-year-old left Real Madrid to join Chelsea in July 2017 for a record 60 million pounds on a five-year deal.

He made 47 appearances in the Premier League for the Blues, scoring 16 times.

Morata played for Atletico in his youth before joining Real Madrid.

He had a medical exam in Spain on Sunday.

This decision comes after last week's loan to Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain, of Chelsea.

His last participation for Chelsea was against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on Jan. 5, scoring both goals in the 2-0 win.

"Morata has turned out to be a prolific scorer in some of the most competitive leagues in Europe," said Atletico on his website.
