The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has sued three government institutions for hiring unauthorized waste treatment companies.

These are the Departments of Justice and Food and Agriculture, as well as the Department of the Registrar General.

Miss Linda Kumbuno, prosecuting officer on behalf of WADA, informed the Adjabeng District Court, chaired by Mr. Isaac Addo, that the institutions had not complied with the notifications that they received. had been served and had also refused to subscribe to the polluter pays principle to help eradicate dirt. metropolis.

She added that WADA had contracts with approved waste management companies to help manage this waste in the metropolis, and that 11 subcontractors have been accredited for this purpose.

In their response, representatives of the three state institutions explained that they were not able to comply with WADA guidelines at the time due to Previous two-year contractual agreements with other waste management companies.

They therefore urged the court to give them time to terminate their contract with previous service providers before engaging Jekora Ventures.

According to WADA's sanitation statutes, outsourcing to the services of non-accredited waste management companies is an offense.

The court adjourned the case on August 28, 2019 to allow the accused institutions to produce the previous contracts they had entered into with these waste management companies.

Other institutions, including Ghana's legal aid system, were also dragged to court.

The legal aid system pleaded with the court to comply with WADA guidelines and was acquitted and released.
