Amazon manufactured a vest to prevent robots from hitting humans

The vest works by arming human workers with sensors capable of communicating with robotic systems. On occasion, a human worker will have to enter an area dominated mainly by automated machinery to perform maintenance or pick up fallen objects. With the jacket, robots can detect human presence and adjust their behavior. The robots will slow down and move away from humans, allowing work to continue rather than completely shutting down the operation for a quick fix.

The Amazon sensor belt solution arrives just a month after an accident involving a robot in one of the company's warehouses resulted in the hospitalization of 24 workers. Reports at the time indicated that one of Amazon's robots had managed to punch a box of bear repellent and release the spray inside the warehouse. More than 50 workers in total were affected by the incident.
