One of the benefits of Amazon Premium Membership is the two-day free shipping on Prime eligible purchases. This could change, however. In a call to investors following Amazon's first quarterly report released today, CFO Brian Olsavsky said the company was working on changing the default two-day timeframe.
Amazon already offers a one-day shipping premium on some orders, but a two-day shipping remains the default. Olsavsky says that could change. "We are currently working on the evolution of our Prime Shipping program, which has always been a two-day program, to become a one-day shipping program," he said. "We will build the bulk of this capacity during the year 2019.
Amazon hopes to do this by updating its infrastructure, developing distribution centers and spending about $ 800 million to facilitate this change. Yahoo Finance announced that Amazon had moved thousands of employees in an effort to increase its rate of execution.
The goal of shipping in a day is not limited to the delivery service of Amazon, but also to partners such as UPS, FedEX and US Postal Service.
It is unclear whether this will be a reality this holiday season, but Olsavsky said the country is progressing steadily towards this goal.
