Amazon plans to create 400 technology jobs and open a new office in downtown Denver, the company said Tuesday.
The expansion of Amazon's Denver Tech Hub will more than double the city's metropolitan engineering workforce, where Amazon currently employs over 350 people, according to the company. Amazon had previously opened an office in Boulder, Colorado, last fall. The expansion will offer job titles covering software and hardware engineering, cloud computing and advertising, the company said.
The new 98,000-square-foot office will be located in Denver's downtown area in Invesco's 1515 Wynkoop LEED (R) Platinum building, the statement said.
Denver was one of the 20 cities on Amazon's shortlist when searching for a second headquarters. The company eventually chose Long Island City, New York, and a northern Virginia area for its new offices, before retiring from the New York site as a result of a political reaction.
When it decided not to install its second headquarters in Long Island City, Amazon announced that it would continue to hire in its central offices and technology hubs in North America, instead of reopening the search for another headquarters . Denver is not the first location on the HQ2 screening list where Amazon has announced an expansion. The company announced in March that it would create 800 technology jobs in Austin, Texas.
