For the first time in 17 seasons, Ryan Seacrest has called sick to American idol On Monday, mentor Bobby Bones was forced out of the wing. (Bones tried to play cool, but let's be realistic: he was ready to administer the Nomi Malone treatment at Seacrest since the first day.)

Even without Seacrest to sow panic, Monday's Idol remained a dramatic two-hour experiment, which ended with the elimination of three more singers … and the official revelation of the Top 14 of Season 17, but before knowing which candidates are preparing the first live episode of the week, let's break down the 10 duets of the evening:
Alyssa Raghu with Julia Michaels, "Issues" | Following the judges' mixed reaction to his choice of Jam Paramore, Raghu chose to slow things down this week, joining Michaels in his hit hit. It was not the easiest song to duet, but I liked it most of the time. Raghu seemed to take Michael's critics (and judges) to heart and tried to find the emotion behind the song. (That said, there were probably a few more quivering and tense kisses than necessary.)

Eddie Island with Lukas Graham, "7 years old" | Another singer who took his critics to heart, Island agreed to drop his "exaggerated madness" in order to expose his "incredible vocal talent." around Graham on those steps at the end.
Grade: B +
Wade Cota with lovelytheband, "Broken" | It's odd that I preferred Cota's harsh tone to the way the singer Mitchy Collins performed the song? His signature sound fits him like a glove, even if it was not necessarily intended. I also liked to see him go wild a little and have fun after the show; everything from him, from his story to his song choices, has a little depressed him until now.
Grade: A-
Ryan Hammond with Cynthia Erivo, "Hold on, I'm coming" | It was one of the oddest choices of the night, but Hammond managed to ride the fun waves, though he did not necessarily embody that funk himself. I realize this contradicts what I said about his last performance, but I wish we had another Hammond ballad this week; his voice with Erivo could have been heaven.

Evelyn Cormier with Chris Isaak, "Wicked Game" | If your vision was blurred, it would have totally pbaded for a duet between Isaak and Lana Del Rey at … I do not know, whatever the best series of awards. (Choice of children?) I can not say that I was already impressed during this performance, but I appreciated. As Lionel Richie explained, the fact that Cormier was able to blend so easily with someone whose style is as precise as Isaak's was already quite impressive.
Grade: B +
Logan Johnson with Julia Michaels, "What time" | After some bleak words from the judges, Johnson has a lot to prove as he replaced Niall Horan in this duo of Michaels. His performance was a bit reserved, but the notes were there, and his self-confidence definitely increased as the song progressed. (But also, can you imagine jumping into a duet with Michaels during your First time convertible? Foolish.)

Raquel Trinidad with lovelytheband, "Tiny Dancer" | Go home, song selector, you're drunk. Seriously, in what universe is it a duo? (Pause, deep breaths.) The fact that this performance was so enjoyable reflects the undeniable talent of Trinidad. I loved that she took every opportunity to present her endless bag of voice tricks. (These tracks!)

Alejandro Aranda with Ben Harper, "There will be a light" | Hats! The beautiful simplicity! These harmonies! I challenge you to find something you do not absolutely like in this fatal pairing. It was as if we were sitting right in front of two authentic artists having themselves a jamsh.
Grade: A
Dimitrius Graham and Lukas Graham, "I Love Someone" | I have some questions about Graham's shoes tonight, but I would not want to change his duet with … Graham. (You know, it could get confusing.) The two singers immediately formed a bond when they met, developing a chemistry that shines through their astonishing and vibrant harmonies.
Grade: A
Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon with Cynthia Erivo, "Time after Time" | Raise your hand if you are surprised that Idol saved this pair for the end. (Oh, not really the hand I thought so much.) Anyway, it was an amazing duo, and I can not say I've ever heard a better performance of the clbadic song Cyndi Lauper. (Do not hesitate to correct me.Media is so many!) I've also loved watching judges react to Erivo. This level of talent and splendor can be difficult to manage for newcomers.
Grade: A
With Seacrest in repair, the responsibility for asking Kieran Healy to dim the lights fell on Bones, the seven sure singers having been revealed in the following order: Evelyn Cormier, Graham Dimitrius, Jeremiah Lloyd Haron, Alyssa Raghu, Wade Cota, Eddie Island and Alejandro Aranda.
The seven winners of the evening of yesterday: Laci Kaye Booth, Ashley Hess, Walker Burroughs, Madison Vandenburg, Uche, Riley Thompson and Laine Hardy.
This means that Ryan Hammond, Logan Johnson and Raquel Trinidad have all reached the end of their Idol trips. (I could drop Raghu in favor of keeping Trinidad, but in most cases, I accept and approve those decisions.)
