An accident killed nearly 60 people in Amoma Nkwanta, near Kintampo

A fatal accident at Amoma Nkwanta in Kintampo Sud District, Bono East Region, claimed the lives of approximately 60 people. Graphic Online has learned.

Reports say two buses from opposite directions crashed in the early hours of Friday at around 2am and caught fire.

According to police, about 35 bodies were burned.

The bus registration numbers are: GT 5694 18, KIA Grand Bird Bus and GT 3916 17, ANKAI VVIP bus. They both had more than 50 pbadengers on board.

The accident occurred on the Kintampo and Techiman sections of the main road leading to Tamale in the Northern Region.

The VVIP bus that was driven by Alexander Amoako (54) was traveling from Accra to Bolgatanga while the KIA Grand Bird bus was traveling from Garu to Kumasi.

According to the reported information, the KIA Grand Bird bus caught fire and was reportedly burned after the collision.

According to reports, most of the pbadengers died on the spot, while a number of them, suffering from more or less serious injuries, were transported to Kintampo hospital and to Hospital Techiman Holy Family.

There are others who are trapped in both vehicles and who still have to be saved according to reports.
