An Australian retiree should earn more than $ 100,000 after recovering a 2 kg gold nugget.
The man found him on the outskirts of Ballarat town, having buried him in a pen with a metal detector.
Mark Day, who sells metal detectors to amateur prospectors, said the man who had discovered gold was experimenting with metal detection for a while
"I have been in this business for 25 years and this is the biggest discovery of any of our customers – which they told me anyway," he said.
The man ended up showing Day the nugget and confessed that he had not slept for three days because he was so stressed about what to do with it.
If he succeeds in selling it, the prospector plans a big pay day, he would have already been offered 160,000 AUD (NZD 166,680) for the nugget.
This is not the first time Australians embark on a great discovery of gold. A man found a nugget worth more than NZD 100,000 in Kalgoorlie in May and a Bendigo family spotted a $ 37,000 counter while walking his dog the same month.
