Almaz Derese has pbaded three exams at Karl Mettu Hospital, in the west of Ethiopia

A woman in Ethiopia spent her exams in a hospital bed 30 minutes after delivery.

Almaz Derese, a 21-year-old from Metu, western Ethiopia, hoped to take the tests before her baby was born, but the high school exams were postponed because of Ramadan.

She gave birth Monday shortly before the start of the first exam.

Ms. Derese said that studying during pregnancy was not a problem and that she did not want to wait until next year to graduate.

She pbaded her English, Amharic and Math exams at the high school on Monday and will pbad her remaining exams at the exam center over the next two days.

"As I was hurrying to take the exam, my job was not at all difficult," Ms. Almaz told the BBC.

Her husband, Tadese Tulu, said that he had to convince the school to allow him to take the exams at the hospital.

Ms. Almaz now wants to take a two-year course that will prepare her for university.

She said that she was satisfied with the way the exams went and that her son was doing well.
