When you're in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, we really feel like being transported to a planet somewhere in the Star wars galaxy. I had the chance to visit the latest development of Disneyland and I was blown away. Here's all you need to know about visiting a galaxy far away.

A planet with history

This is not just another theme park in Disneyland, like Adventureland or Tomorrowland. Galaxy's Edge is a recognized place Star wars gun.

The Batuu planet was once a distant planet located at the edge of the outer edge, often used as the last step before entering Wild Space. It was of course years before the introduction of hyperspace technology. The planet, and more specifically the Black Spire Outpost colony, has long been neglected by most travelers and has become a port for smugglers, rogue merchants and adventurers traveling from the galactic border to an unknown space.

In anticipation of the opening of the territory, comics and novels have been published to tell stories that have taken on the planet. Black Spire Outpost and Dok Ondar were both mentioned in Solo: A story of Star Wars. In Timothy Zahn's novel Thrawn: Alliances, Anakin Skywalker searched for a missing Padme Amidala in Batuu during the Clone Wars and met for the first time with Major Thrawn. And many more stories are published to flesh out the adventures of Hondo Ohnaka (from the animated series Batuu) Star wars Viia Moradi, spy of Leia Organa, who chose Batuu for the secret command post of the Resistance. And yes, customers can meet Vi during their exploration of Black Spire Outpost.

Where we find Batuu now

Galaxy's Edge visitors will find Batuu about 25 years after the Battle of Yavin – more precisely between the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The rise of Skywalker. Black Spire Outpost has become a haven for those seeking to hide from the First Order in the next trilogy. This is not presented as the story of someone else in which you walk, but your personal adventure in Star wars.

Of course, things are not peaceful for long. The First Order occupied Black Spire Outpost, in reference to the giant petrified black trees that dominate it. It is here that will take place the essential part of our adventure (at least for the moment). However, there is also an area in the forest where the Resistance has established a secret base in the ancient ruins. This will be the setting for a future adventure when the Star Wars: Rising Resistance The trip starts a little later this year (as early as August or as late as October if you listen to rumors). We will return to this elbow (pun intended) soon enough.

What is clear immediately when you walk in Batuu, is how amazing is the theming. Everything feels like Star wars. Everything feels lived and used, like a real sense of history. There are even traces of blaster on the buildings! This is not a royal city with a clean look, as we saw in the prequels – it's the dirty Star wars we saw in George Lucas, J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson films. The attention to detail is incredible. It's just amazing to browse and focus on every little detail, enjoying every nuance. An amazing touch among so many others: we walked through a square with hanging lights that used the domes of the old R2 droids to cover the light.

You could even find a troop of Stormtroopers of the First Order on patrol. Kylo Ren could introduce himself and make a remarkable entrance to his TIE fighter. Costumed characters are much more interactive in Galaxy's Edge than elsewhere. To meet Kylo Ren in other areas of Disneyland, you will need to visit him at his meeting in Launch Bay. Here, you can sometimes see him walking across the country with his Stormtrooper patrol, investigating the rumors of the Resistance's presence on the planet. Even Stormtroopers are much more interactive and seem to have a bigger bank of questions and answers. You can even see First Order generals moving around the area, interviewing guests.

After exploring the outpost of Black Spire, head west through the forest towards the ruins. This is where the Resistance began to set up its new base of operations. It feels very isolated and there is a lot of land between the Black Spire Outpost and the Resistance Foundation to help tell the story, which is amazing to me because Disney could have used it for more shops or more rides. The theming was winning, it's a good thing.

You can see an A-Wing and an X-Wing, which make great photo opportunities. You could even find Rey or Chewbacca wandering here, helping to set up the new Resistance base. Once again, it's very cool to meet these characters in the middle of the park and not have to wait for hours in a row at Launch Bay. I am skeptical that it will be convenient to do it on peak days.

Unlike other parts of the Disneyland complex, there is no background music, just ambient sounds of the world. It's like that everywhere in the country. You only hear John Williams' new score at the entrances of the country and the interior of the country itself. Galaxy's Edge is also the first theme park with Dolby Atmos speakers. Outside at night, you will hear spaceships flying above your head and, even if you do not see them, you can certainly feel them.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is amazing

There is no other theme park in the world with thematic and immersive details. Galaxy's Edge will transport you to the world of Star wars and it's just amazing. The stores cater to both the general public and hardcore fans in ways I have never seen before. The collectible merchandise offered is foolish and I'm going to be so broke because of Batuu's existence. Smoked Kaadu ribs at Docking Bay 7 and Ronto Wrap at Ronto's Roasters are the new Disneyland food clbadics being prepared. The Oga Cantina is great and all the sweet alcohol drinks are excellent.

As for the single ride, Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run allows us to explore this iconic vessel in a way that I would never have imagined possible. Star wars the fans will panic. I almost cried! The carousel itself is more of an immersive video game than a carousel – it's a lot of fun, but I do not think it's going to blunt anyone. That said, I'm pretty sure Rise of the Resistance will do just that. Everything I've heard on this dark, trackless track is ringing at the next level, and we'll be able to experience it later this year.

Disney cast members who run the establishments are all "citizens" of Batuu and remain in the character when you interact with them. They customized their costumes through a mix of available options and built stories and vocabulary. If someone who works on a booth says "Bright Suns", it is equivalent to "hello" to Batuu. They ask for a payment on credit, but do not worry, you can pay with your credit card. For some reason, credits translate into cents exactly. Who would have thought?

I like some of the interactions I've had so far with cast members, but I'm cynical that it lasts. How long will these cast members and Disney entertain their characters and allow them to interact in an interesting way with their guests when there are so many huge lines? I hope that they can make it work indefinitely.

Although I liked the experience, it's not perfect. I was disappointed by the Blue Milk beverage and I'm not sure I'll ever have it again. If it's missing an element in the otherwise immersive atmosphere, it's more droids, aliens and non-cashier citizens of Batuu. I'm hoping that Disneyland will eventually fill the Cantina and Black Spire outpost with an abundance of street characters that could bring a little more Star wars life in this spaceport.

And who knows? This could be in the eventual plans. This is only Batuu 1.0, and Disney said that the Batuu planet would evolve over the years and I can only see its progress improve.
